Abilities First Honoring Four At Annual Gala

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Abilities First is honoring those who have made a difference in the community at its annual Signature Event on Friday, Oct. 27 at Shadows on Hudson in Poughkeepsie from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The is being awarded to Dr. Marc Straus and Ari Straus, whose family donated a building to Abilities First. Marc and his wife, Livia, founded the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill.

“We are humbled to be the recipients of the 2017 Abilities First Community Leadership Award," Ari Straus said. "My parents and grandparents taught us that it is our responsibility to help make this world a better place, and that’s what Abilities First does by providing care, support, and education to children and adults with unique challenges."

Karen and Kevin Page, longtime supporters of Abilities First, will be recognized as the 2017 Outstanding Volunteers.

The Pages are Managing Partners of Page Management Group, a Poughkeepsie-based company specializing in land development and commercial real estate leasing. The Pages have contributed many volunteer hours to the organization. Page Management Group has provided sponsorship support for many of Abilities First’s fundraising events. Both are actively involved with local community groups including the LaGrange Historical Society, Rotary Club of LaGrange, and Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge #275.
